Keeping Loss Alive

It saddens me when I see a loved one hurting. Hurting because they miss a grandparent, father, mother, sibling, or spouse who is no longer on this earth.  We all go through this process of loss no matter who leaves this earthly life.

Next month marks 20 years for my father’s death.  I think of him fondly, there are times I wish he were still here, and some days I miss him so very much. I find comfort that he is in a much better place (especially since he had cancer as he suffers no more) and I will see him again in the after life.  I remind myself of the good times with him and I do different things to keep his memory alive. I have my love for writing, movies (the theater in general),  and music from him. My mom often tells me you are your dad’s daughter.  I favor him from my looks to my mannerisms to what I love in life and oh, so much more.

For those of you who have suffered loss of this kind,

Keep that person’s memory alive.

Don’t forget them.

How can you forget them anyway.

Instead of focusing on the pain of what you have lost,

Focus on what you do have.

If you have siblings, that parent lives on in that brother or sister.

If you have children, your parents or spouse (whoever has passed on) lives on in them.

From their smile and to anything with their looks,

To mannerisms and to what they love to do.

There’s so much joy in knowing what you have in common with the one who has passed on,

And aren’t they really still here when you see them in those you love who are around you.

Their spirit is in you and around you,

They are your guardian angel,

Feel at peace and comforted by that.

Cover yourself with love and know you are not alone.

This is a lovely song from the movie Mary Poppins Returns that poignantly deals with this subject matter. If you haven’t seen the movie, I highly recommend it; definitely as good as the original.

  2. I have been surfing on-line more than three hours as of late, but I never discovered any interesting article like yours. It’s beautiful value sufficient for me. Personally, if all website owners and bloggers made excellent content material as you probably did, the net will likely be much more useful than ever before.
